10U Boys are Champs in first PG tournament!

Casamayor Academy 10U captured their first PG tournament title on a nail biting back and forth game at Heritage Park in Simpsonville, SC. After a tough Saturday facing the Carolina Royals and Young Guns, where they played well but came up short, the Casamayor boys rallied in Sunday’s bracket play, defeating the Greenville Bolts and then the UC Diamondbacks in tightly contested games to win their bracket.

In the final game, UC Diamondbacks struck first with Tamryn P homering in the top of the first, but Casamayor responded immediately with a six-run bottom of the inning. John Wood’s two-RBI single was the big blow helping Casamayor take a 6-3 lead. UC retook the edge in the second and added in the third. Casamayor scored each inning, but so did the Diamondbacks keeping a 2-3 run lead until the 5th.

Then in the 5th Casamayor led off with a single by Brennan Esposito, Carter Hurst and John Wood kept the inning alive putting the ball in play, until Carson Fuchs singled hard to tie it up at 10. Carson stole his way to 3rd base, when Lawrence McFadden came up to the plate. On the 2nd pitch the ball scooted away from the UC catcher and Carson Fuchs raced home for the winning score!

Prince Williams earned the win (2.1 IP, 9 R, 8 ER, 6 H, 1 K, 6 BB), while Vincent Seidl closed out the game with a fantastic save. Casamayor racked up 14 hits—Carson, Carter H, Brennan E, and Prince had two hits each—and nine different players drove in runs. Carson and Brennan each stole multiple bases as the team swiped seven total.

It was a total team effort with the boys hitting for a team average of .471 over the weekend. Not a bad weekend for Casamayor 10U’s first tournament!! More to come!
